Suzuki's intent with the GSX-S1000GX was to produce the 'ultimate sports crossover', and they have delivered just that! Effortlessly blending sports styling and performance with the comfort and versatility of a long distance tourer, the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GX delivers a truly exciting ride in every environment.
Delivering high performance and power, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX offers an impressive 999cc powerplant which boasts an admirable 150bhp and 78.18lb.ft of torque, providing plenty of excitement at the twist of a throttle. The engines utilised in the GSX-S series have undergone rigorous testing and fine tuning over the years, evolving to the pinnacle of sports touring performance that is as capable of supporting sportier riding as it is a long distance trip, all while achieving the necessary criteria to make the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX Euro-5 emissions compliant. This engine sits neatly within a twin-spar aluminium chassis designed to perform in every situation, delivering high stability at speed with superior agility when tackling twisting mountain passes.
While the powerful engine delivers a sporty ride when required, Suzuki have worked hard to create a machine that provides maximum comfort and a less tiring touring experience, providing increased versatility to the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX. Increased attention to the ergonomics of the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX increase both rider and pillion comfort; the handlebar grips are brought 55mm closer to the rider than on the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT, as well as being 50mm longer and with a 14mm wider grip placement. These changes not only make the riding position more comfortable but also give the rider a greater amount of control over the steering with less input required. Further improvements include extending the distance between the riders hip and foot by 15mm to offer a less cramped riding position that increases riding comfort. You'll also find the seat a welcoming place to spend the day, with the rider seat being made 15mm thicker than that of the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT along with a newly designed shape that allows greater comfort when touring, but slimmed down at the front for greater movement when riding in a sportier manner. Even the pillion seat has been redesigned for improved passenger comfort, with a 10mm thicker and 26mm wider pillion seat than that of the GSX-S1000GT.
Where the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX really shines is in its electronics, with newly developed technology for Suzuki motorcycles being showcased here. For the first time on a Suzuki motorcycle, the Suzuki GSX-S1000 GX features all-new SAES technology. This Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension utilises Showa's EERA series suspension with electronically controlled inverted telescopic front forks and link type monoshock rear suspension. This technology uses information from the IMU and wheel speed sensors within the bike, along with high precision stroke sensors integrated into the forks and shock. With this wealth of information providing adjustments on the go, the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GX absorbs road imperfections to improve your comfort on the road, while ensuring great handling at slower speeds and increased stability at higher speed.
Working in tandem with the Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension, the Suzuki Road Adaptive Stabilisation (SRAS) technology activates automatically when riding on cobblestones or other uneven surfaces, triggering stronger Suzuki Floating Ride Control (SFRC) to help smooth out the ride and adjusting the Electronic Throttle Valve settings to deliver softer, more controllable throttle response.
A new ride-by-wire electronic throttle system allows for a greater connection between the rider and the bike for a more direct throttle response. This system works by using a series of sensors to communicate with the throttle valves, offering a lighter and faster throttle response with a natural, familiar feel. The inclusion of the ride-by-wire throttle has also made it possible for Suzuki to include a bi-directional quickshifter on the new GSX-S1000 GX, which allows the rider to shift up and down the gearbox without the use of the clutch lever. The quickshifter’s electronic sensors automatically interrupt power delivery for a fraction of a second, allowing the gear cogs to unload and the rider to upshift, all in one seamless motion. The bi-directional quickshifter is sure to improve the sporty feel of the new GSX-S1000 GX. A cruise control feature comes as standard, a blessing for long distance bikers that will really make the difference when travelling over many miles.
The addition of the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) is a welcomed feature, enhancing the usability of the new Suzuki GSX-S1000 GX and enriching the sports touring potential too. The SCAS helps to reduce the negative torque and engine braking when downshifting from high RPM, which can cause the rear wheel to skip or potentially lock up. The result of the SCAS system is a smoother machine, which offers the rider greater control when downshifting and cornering as well as a lighter clutch lever operation, making for increased comfort when travelling through tight traffic.
Following the flagship Suzuki Hayabusa, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX adopts the SDMS-α (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector Alpha) system, which provides integrated management of multiple electronic systems. With three levels pre-set and one channel for customisation your own riding mode, riders can tailor the power output, traction control and active damping control easily and efficiently. Suzuki's new traction control system incorporates two new features into the mix; Lift Limiter and Roll Torque Control. Lift Limiter - a system of anti-wheelie - prevents the front wheel lifting under hard acceleration while Roll Torque Control calculates the bikes lean angle and speed to predetermine what level of power output is optimal when cornering.
The Motion Track Braking System combines information from the IMU with the front and rear wheel speed sensors, which makes it possible for the ABS system to activate both in a straight line and while leaning, controlling braking pressure according to the available traction. Further utilising the Inertial Measurement Unit, the bike is constantly monitoring the posture of the vehicle, even when travelling downhill. If you’re travelling downhill and apply the brake, the Slope Descent Control System kicks in, controlling your braking pressure to prevent the rear wheel of the bike from lifting.
The GSX-S 1000 GX features a full colour 6.5" TFT dashboard display that offers a comprehensive range of information for the rider. Fuel gauge, gear position, ambient temperature and much more. The TFT display also has an anti-scratch surface and anti-reflective too, making it much easier to read your display, even in bright light! The TFT dashboard display is designed to connect effortlessly to your smartphone too! By downloading the Suzuki mySPIN app, the rider can connect their phone directly to their bike and control the smartphone using the bikes controls to change settings, and open contacts, music, maps and more! Behind the TFT dash is a USB socket, perfect for powering your smartphone or any other gadgets that you may require charging when utilising the GSX-S1000GX as a touring machine.
