The 'R' model, reborn! Utilising the an all-new parallel twin engine configuration so beloved in the new GSX-8S and featuring a quickshifter, TFT dashboard and more, the new Suzuki GSX-8R is Suzuki’s vision for the future of sports motorcycles, offering real world performance in an aerodynamic package.

Suzuki have built their all-new sports bike around a brand-new parallel twin engine, which boasts some impressive performance figures and innovative new technology to help you get the most from your new Suzuki GSX-8R. This brand-new engine features a 270° crank configuration to guarantee a strong torque delivery that is accompanied by a DOHC design and four valves per cylinder for a clean, free-revving nature all the way to the top end.

As part of this innovative new power plant, Suzuki have included the Suzuki Cross Balancer. This is a first amongst production motorcycles and is included here to supress engine vibration to help contribute to a smoother engine operation and reduce the weight of the engine. This carefully considered inclusion helps to counteract any unnecessary engine vibration for a smoother, more enjoyable riding experience.

With the new engine in mind, an exciting new frame configuration has been created from steel tube sections for incredible strength and straight-line stability and agile handling, while contributing to the stripped-back streetfighter styling of the bike. The wheelbase of the Suzuki GSX-8R is longer than that of the Suzuki GSX-8S, which aids straight lines stability at higher speeds while the inclusion of an aluminium swingarm and aluminium wheels help to reduce weight and aid in faster turning, tipping in and more. The GSX-8R uses forged aluminium, separate handlebars. The use of aluminium not only minimises weight, but the pressure applied in the forging process also contributes to creating highly rigid components. The lower, more forward placement of the handlebars provides a sportier riding position, placing more of the rider’s weight over the front wheel.

The bright LED lights sit in hexagonal housings for a unique, recognisable look and are topped with an additional LED position light. These LED headlights are mounted to the frame which helps to keep the steering lightweight and contributes to the dialled in handling of the new GSX-8R. Rather than opt for a reflector or projector type headlights, the new GSX-8R uses mono-focus type headlights that shine straight through the outer lens for clearer illumination from your headlights.

The addition of the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) is a welcomed feature, enhancing not only the usability of the new Suzuki GSX-8R but enriching the naked sports bike potential too. The SCAS helps to reduce the negative torque and engine braking when downshifting from high RPM, which can cause the rear wheel to skip or potentially lock up. The result of the SCAS system is a smoother machine, which offers the rider greater control when downshifting and cornering as well as a lighter clutch lever operation, making for increased comfort when travelling through tight traffic.

Suzuki’s Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) features three different riding modes to help tailor the machine to suit the rider or the riding conditions. These riding modes are distinguished by the letters A, B and C, which stand for ‘Active’, ‘Basic’ and ‘Comfort’. ‘Active’ provides the most direct throttle response for exciting acceleration on good weather days, while ‘Comfort’ offers a softer throttle response and gentler torque delivery, perfect for wet weather days or a more relaxed riding style.

The Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) features three different traction control modes to let you tailor your new Suzuki to meet your needs. The STCS uses inputs from the throttle position sensor, crank position sensor, gear position sensor, front wheel speed sensor and rear wheel speed sensor. All these sensors feed back to the GSX-8R’s electronic brain and makes adjustments accordingly when an imminent loss of traction is detected, helping keep you safer on the road and a blessing in wet weather conditions.

A new ride-by-wire electronic throttle system allows for a greater connection between the rider and the bike for a more direct throttle response. This system works by using a series of sensors to communicate with the throttle valves, offering a lighter and faster throttle response with a natural, familiar feel. The inclusion of the ride-by-wire throttle has also made it possible for Suzuki to include a bi-directional quickshifter on the new GSX-8R, which allows the rider to shift up and down the gearbox without the use of the clutch lever. The quickshifter’s electronic sensors automatically interrupt power delivery for a fraction of a second, allowing the gear cogs to unload and the rider to upshift, all in one seamless transaction. The bi-directional quickshifter is sure to improve the sporty feel of the new GSX-8R, making your road riding a more enjoyable experience!

With dual radially mounted Nissin front calipers and Nissin single pistion rear caliper, stopping certainly isn’t an issue on the new GSX-8R. Differing from it's naked counterpart, the Suzuki GSX-8R utilises Showa SFF-BP (Separate Fork Function - Big Piston) inverted front forks along with a Showa link-type monoshock rear shock absorber. These suspension elements are perfect for the Suzuki GSX-8R, with a spring rate that is optimised for both solid cornering performance as well as straight-line stability. The inclusion of Dunlop’s RoadSport 2 hyper-sport tyres as standard offer a supreme amount of grip, even in wet weather with additional heat control and consistent performance from brand new to worn in.

A new full colour TFT dashboard display helps highlight everything that you could need to know about your new Suzuki GSX-8R while riding. Speed to gear position, fuel gauge to rider modes, the new 5” TFT dash shows it all and features manual or automatic switching settings, with white for daytime riding and black for night riding to maximise visibility at any time of day.
